OLA expanded its role and obtained a license to operate as a Sector Skills Unit for the Logistics industry in the year 2019. The Logistics Sector Skills Unit's mandate is to build a skills system that is driven by the logistics industry demand with the intended objective of bringing together all the stakeholders, industry, human resources, and academia for conducting research and development activities for skills development and skills up-gradation for the industry.

➤ Availability of the NOS provides a structure for :
- Improved recruitment and selection process.
- Performance management systems or benchmarking and assessment of employees.
- Training and development of human resources.
➤ Qualitative and quantitative research data, obtained from Labor Market Information Analysis (LMIA) and other activities can be used for :
- Advocacy and planning for further research and development activities.
- Creating required infrastructure with regards to training and human resource development in the sector.
- Creating academies of excellence for the sector.
The Board is made up of non-executive directors chosen by their employers in response to an official request by the OLA Chairperson for a term of one year. Then, during the first meeting of the Board, the members elect one of them to be the chairperson and another as deputy. The Governing Board plays a pivotal role in developing the strategic and organizational aims of the LSSU and ensuring its functionality of the LSSU.
Several industrial advisory committees have been established to support the LSSU's work and ensure Sector participation and engagement, including but not limited to the Logistics HR Committees and the National Occupational Standards (NOS) Pack Committee.
